Architectural-salvage pioneer founded by Gil Shapiro in SoHo in 1978, when its crews combed New York demolition sites and dumpsters for ornament, lighting, and fixtures; early customers included Andy Warhol. From its TriBeCa flagship the company later evolved into a leading maker of restoration lighting, bath fittings, and artisan tile drawn from its salvage archive — MSL toured the operation in two field-trip segments.
