The furniture-conservation arm of the Sotheby's auction house, founded in the late 1970s by John Stair, whose team of master cabinetmakers, gilders, polishers, and lacquer specialists restored fine antique furniture in New York City and, from the mid-1980s, Claverack, New York; it was later acquired by Stair's son Colin and renamed Stair Restoration. MSL toured the workshop in a factory-visit segment.
