The New England Confectionery Company, formed in a 1901 Boston-area merger with roots in Oliver Chase's 1847 lozenge-cutting machine — long billed as the oldest continuously operating candy company in the United States, and maker of Necco Wafers and Sweethearts conversation hearts. MSL toured its longtime Cambridge, Massachusetts factory in a field-trip segment.
