Japanese pearl house founded in 1893 in Toba by Kokichi Mikimoto, who produced the world's first cultured pearl that year and by 1913 had opened stores from London to New York; production centered on the island near Toba now known as Mikimoto Pearl Island. MSL's two-part segment followed the company's pearl-cultivation process.
