Chef Alice Waters's pioneering garden-and-kitchen classroom, founded in 1995 at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Berkeley, California, where students grow, cook, and share food from a one-acre organic garden; it became the model for the national Edible Schoolyard Project.
