Public garden on Bainbridge Island, Washington — the former 140-acre estate of timber executive Prentice Bloedel (MacMillan Bloedel) and his wife Virginia, opened to the public in 1988. Its famed moss garden, laid out by landscape architect Richard Haag in 1982 from roughly 275,000 hand-planted moss plugs, is among the largest in the country; MSL toured it alongside nearby Heronswood in a Puget Sound gardens field trip.
