Acadia National Park

The first national park east of the Mississippi — established as Lafayette National Park in 1919 and renamed Acadia in 1929 — covering much of Mount Desert Island, Maine, with its Rockefeller-built carriage roads and Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the U.S. Atlantic coast. The park sits minutes from Martha's Skylands estate in Seal Harbor, and MSL's Maine-summer episodes made it a natural field-trip destination.
