Martha's mother Martha Kostyra (née Ruszkowski, born 1914 Buffalo, died Nov 15 2007 Norwalk CT) — known as "Big Martha". Polish-American matriarch of the Kostyra clan. Featured on dozens of MSL TV cooking segments demonstrating Polish family recipes — pierogi, sauerbraten, chrusciki (bow-tie cookies), babka, kielbasa, lardy cake, stuffed cabbage, blueberry buckle. Martha dedicated her cookbooks Martha Stewart's Quick Cook (1983) and Martha Stewart's Pies & Tarts (1985) to her.
